Archdiocesan Youth Day on 07-07-07
July 8th, 2007Yesterday, my RCIY students and I went to this event for the youths. It was a great experience for all of us and also for all the youths. 3000 youths were present and they sang and praised Jesus. The backdrop said - 2/3 of GOD is GO and the youths went for it. There was so much enthusiasm and energy and they participated fully. The drama about Jonah was very entertaining. There was humour too especially when Moses appeared and was told that he was in the wrong story and Moses had to close the Red Sea. Samson was also told that he was in the wrong story and he then realized that he didn’t have the strength. When it was time for adoration - there was complete silence and I could sense the reverence of the Eucharist. The youths knelt all the time even though it was very cramped and uncomfortable.
Overall, it was a great experience for all the youths including five of the RCIY students. Thanks to the organizers and to all who helped in the production. We hope we can experience another such event soon. God Bless!

June 8th, 2007Hi! I know it is June -vacation time. Many of us are just lazing around and probably be travelling to some places for holidays. I have not posted any e-lessons but will try to do so for this holiday.

My week in Seattle
April 20th, 2007My work and my interests take me to many places. One of them is to Microsoft in Seattle, USA. You see, I am one of the international advisers for Microsoft’s Partners in Learning project, Innovative Schools Program. This program involves 12 international schools who are going to introduce changes to help new form of learning to prepare students to learn in the 21st century. I am here (presently I am writing this blog in a conference room in Seattle) to help provide some advice, ideas and support to some of the schools involved in this program. Last night, we had a dinner cruise along the lakes of Seattle. It was a wonderful experience (see picture of me and my colleagues from US and Philippines). We also saw Bill Gates house and here it is.
Passion week
April 1st, 2007I will be going away to Abu Dhabi to conduct training for a week. Yesterday, I had a session with my RCIY students - they are a wonderful group of students. I enjoy sharing with them and working with them - to help them understand the Catholic faith and also to accept Jesus Christ.
If you are reading this - especially my RCIY students - one piece of very good news announced by the priest. ALL our CATHECISM classes will be air conditioned. Great - not so hot after all and I am sure our classes will be more pleasant. So great for St Anne. Here is their website: http://www.stanneonline.org/cms/

March 26th, 2007Bhutan
March 3rd, 2007I am at present in Bhutan - a kingdom at the foot of Himalaya mountains and India, at the south and China at the north. I have been visiting Bhutan for a number of times. It is a beautiful country with very nice people. For my latest visit, I am working with a team of lecturers from the Paro College of Education (new name for National Institute of Education, Paro) assisting them to develop a curriculum for trainee teachers in teaching and using IT for education. We have been working on this project for the past five years and this year’s visit is to evaluate the effectiveness and to close the project. Singapore International Foundation is the main sponsor and organiser for this project and many thanks to them and the sponsors for their kind assistance. I will put up a short web photo of my experiences in Bhutan later. Check this out: http://picasaweb.google.com/philwons/BhutanCollection
The weather here is cold even though it is at the tail end of winter. I live in the tropics and anything below 25C is cold for us. So my friends and I are wearing winter sweaters to keep us warm. Tonight, we are watching EPL - Liverpool vs Man United. Yes, we have cable vision in our hotel rooms and we are cheering for Liverpool!
